The Beatitudes (II) Introduction If you could have anything in the world, what would you want to have the most? Selected Reading Matthew 5:7-12 Matthew 5 [7] Blessed are the merciful, for they will be shown mercy. [8] Blessed are the pure in heart, for they will see God. [9] Blessed are the peacemakers, for they will be called sons of God. [10] Blessed are those who are persecuted because of righteousness, for theirs is the kingdom of heaven. [11] "Blessed are you when people insult you, persecute you and falsely say all kinds of evil against you because of me. [12] Rejoice and be glad, because great is your reward in heaven, for in the same way they persecuted the prophets who were before you.   7 怜恤人的人有福了，因为他们必蒙怜恤。8 清心的人有福了，因为他们必得见神。9 使人和睦的人有福了，因为他们必称为神的儿子。10 为义受逼迫的人有福了，因为天国是他们的。11 人若因我辱骂你们，逼迫你们，捏造各样坏话毁谤你们，你们就有福了。12 应当欢喜快乐，因为你们在天上的赏赐是大的。在你们以前的先知，人也是这样逼迫他们。 Blessed be the merciful, for they will be shown mercy. 1.       Who will show mercy to the merciful? (Psalms 18:25; Matthew 7:2, 12) Psalms 18 [25] To the faithful you show yourself faithful, to the blameless you show yourself blameless,   25 慈爱的人，你以慈爱待他。完全的人，你以完全待他。 2.       When you see someone in need, do you usually try to help him or her? Why or why not? Blessed are the pure in heart, for they will see God? 1.       What does it mean to be pure in heart? 2.       What did Jesus mean by “they will see God”? 3.       How can we keep our hearts pure? Is it easy? Blessed are the peacemakers, for they will be called sons of God. 1.       Is it easy to be a peacemaker? Why or why not? 2.       Why do you think it’s possible for God’s children to be peacemakers? 3.       When you have relational problems, what do you usually do? Blessed are those who are persecuted because of righteousness, for theirs is the kingdom of heaven. 1.       Does anyone enjoy being persecuted? 2.       Why would people be persecuted because of righteousness? 3.       Is it important to insist on righteousness in all situations? Why or why not? 4.       Why would God bless these people? A time to reflect 1. What difference do you see between God’s way of blessing and the world? 2. How can you become more blessed by God? Memory verse: Blessed are the pure in heart, for they will see God. (Matthew 5:8)
