PROVERBS 1
Memory verse 1:7
1.       Who was Solomon? Where did Solomon’s wisdom come from? Why did he ask for wisdom? (see I Kgs.3:5-14, 28)
I Kgs.3[5] At Gibeon the Lord appeared to Solomon during the night in a dream, and God said, "Ask for whatever you want me to give you." [6] Solomon answered, "You have shown great kindness to your servant, my father David, because he was faithful to you and righteous and upright in heart. You have continued this great kindness to him and have given him a son to sit on his throne this very day. [7] "Now, O Lord my God, you have made your servant king in place of my father David. But I am only a little child and do not know how to carry out my duties. [8] Your servant is here among the people you have chosen, a great people, too numerous to count or number. [9] So give your servant a discerning heart to govern your people and to distinguish between right and wrong. For who is able to govern this great people of yours?" [10] The Lord was pleased that Solomon had asked for this. [11] So God said to him, "Since you have asked for this and not for long life or wealth for yourself, nor have asked for the death of your enemies but for discernment in administering justice, [12] I will do what you have asked. I will give you a wise and discerning heart, so that there will never have been anyone like you, nor will there ever be. [13] Moreover, I will give you what you have not asked for--both riches and honor--so that in your lifetime you will have no equal among kings. [14] And if you walk in my ways and obey my statutes and commands as David your father did, I will give you a long life."
[28] When all Israel heard the verdict the king had given, they held the king in awe, because they saw that he had wisdom from God to administer justice.

Proverbs 1:1-19
[1] The proverbs of Solomon son of David, king of Israel: [2] for attaining wisdom and discipline; for understanding words of insight; [3] for acquiring a disciplined and prudent life, doing what is right and just and fair; [4] for giving prudence to the simple, knowledge and discretion to the young-- [5] let the wise listen and add to their learning, and let the discerning get guidance-- [6] for understanding proverbs and parables, the sayings and riddles of the wise. [7] The fear of the Lord is the beginning of knowledge, but fools* despise wisdom and discipline. [8] Listen, my son, to your father's instruction and do not forsake your mother's teaching. [9] They will be a garland to grace your head and a chain to adorn your neck. [10] My son, if sinners entice you, do not give in to them. [11] If they say, "Come along with us; let's lie in wait for someone's blood, let's waylay some harmless soul; [12] let's swallow them alive, like the grave,* and whole, like those who go down to the pit; [13] we will get all sorts of valuable things and fill our houses with plunder; [14] throw in your lot with us, and we will share a common purse"-- [15] my son, do not go along with them, do not set foot on their paths; [16] for their feet rush into sin, they are swift to shed blood. [17] How useless to spread a net in full view of all the birds! [18] These men lie in wait for their own blood; they waylay only themselves! [19] Such is the end of all who go after ill-gotten gain; it takes away the lives of those who get it.
