GODLY LIVING
1. List the promises which are given to a righteous (good, sensible) man in this chapter. What warnings are given to wicked people? (Prov. 10:3, 6-7, 11, 16, 20, 24, 27-28, 30, 32)
Prov. 10[3] The Lord does not let the righteous go hungry but he thwarts the craving of the wicked.
[6] Blessings crown the head of the righteous, but violence overwhelms the mouth of the wicked.* [7] The memory of the righteous will be a blessing, but the name of the wicked will rot.
[11] The mouth of the righteous is a fountain of life, but violence overwhelms the mouth of the wicked.
[16] The wages of the righteous bring them life, but the income of the wicked brings them punishment.
[20] The tongue of the righteous is choice silver, but the heart of the wicked is of little value.
[24] What the wicked dreads will overtake him; what the righteous desire will be granted.
[27] The fear of the Lord adds length to life, but the years of the wicked are cut short. [28] The prospect of the righteous is joy, but the hopes of the wicked come to nothing.
[30] The righteous will never be uprooted, but the wicked will not remain in the land.
[32] The lips of the righteous know what is fitting, but the mouth of the wicked only what is perverse.
 
3 耶和华不使义人受饥饿。恶人所欲的他必推开。
6 福祉临到义人的头。强暴蒙蔽恶人的口。7 义人的纪念被称赞。恶人的名字必朽烂。
11 义人的口是生命的泉源。强暴蒙蔽恶人的口。
16 义人的勤劳致生。恶人的进项致死。(死原文作罪)
20 义人的舌,乃似高银。恶人的心,所值无几。
24 恶人所怕的必临到他。义人所愿的必蒙应允。
 
27 敬畏耶和华,使人日子加多。但恶人的年岁必被减少。28 义人的盼望,必得喜乐。恶人的指望,必至灭没。
30 义人永不挪移。恶人不得住在地上。
32 义人的嘴,能令人喜悦。恶人的口,说乖谬的话。
 
2. Which virtues should we develop according to Proverbs 22:1, 3, 4, 9, 11?
Prov. 22[1] A good name is more desirable than great riches; to be esteemed is better than silver or gold.
[3] A prudent man sees danger and takes refuge, but the simple keep going and suffer for it. [4] Humility and the fear of the Lord bring wealth and honor and life.
[9] A generous man will himself be blessed, for he shares his food with the poor.
[11] He who loves a pure heart and whose speech is gracious will have the king for his friend.
 
1 美名胜过大财,恩宠强如金银。
 
3 通达人见祸藏躲。愚蒙人前往受害。4 敬畏耶和华心存谦卑,就得富有,尊荣,生命,为赏赐
9 眼目慈善的,就必蒙福。因他将食物分给穷人。

3. Compare the righteous and the wicked. What is the difference between their thinking, speech, treatment of others, and influence? (Prov. 12:5-6, 16-26)
Prov. 12[5] The plans of the righteous are just, but the advice of the wicked is deceitful. [6] The words of the wicked lie in wait for blood, but the speech of the upright rescues them.
[16] A fool shows his annoyance at once, but a prudent man overlooks an insult. [17] A truthful witness gives honest testimony, but a false witness tells lies. [18] Reckless words pierce like a sword, but the tongue of the wise brings healing. [19] Truthful lips endure forever, but a lying tongue lasts only a moment. [20] There is deceit in the hearts of those who plot evil, but joy for those who promote peace. [21] No harm befalls the righteous, but the wicked have their fill of trouble. [22] The Lord detests lying lips, but he delights in men who are truthful. [23] A prudent man keeps his knowledge to himself, but the heart of fools blurts out folly. [24] Diligent hands will rule, but laziness ends in slave labor. [25] An anxious heart weighs a man down, but a kind word cheers him up. [26] A righteous man is cautious in friendship,* but the way of the wicked leads them astray.
 
5 义人的思念是公平。恶人的计谋是诡诈。6 恶人的言论,是埋伏流人的血。正直人的口,必拯救人。
 
16 愚妄人的恼怒,立时显露。通达人能忍辱藏羞。17 说出真话的,显明公义。作假见证的,显出诡诈。
18 说话浮躁的,如刀刺人。智慧人的舌头,却为医人的良药。
19 口吐真言,永远坚立。舌说谎话,只存片时。20 图谋恶事的,心存诡诈。劝人和睦的,便得喜乐。21 义人不遭灾害恶人满受祸患。
22 说谎言的嘴,为耶和华所憎恶。行事诚实的,为他所喜悦。23 通达人隐藏知识。愚昧人的心,彰显愚昧。24 殷勤人的手必掌权。懒惰的人必服苦。25 人心忧虑,屈而不伸。一句良言,使心欢乐
26 义人引导他的邻舍。恶人的道,叫人失迷。
 
4. Which virtuous qualities in Proverbs chapter 19 should we imitate? (Prov. 19:11, 17, 20, 23) Which bad qualities should we remove from our lives? (Prov. 19:2-3, 9, 15, 26)
Prov. 19[11] A man's wisdom gives him patience; it is to his glory to overlook an offense.
[17] He who is kind to the poor lends to the Lord, and he will reward him for what he has done.
[20] Listen to advice and accept instruction, and in the end you will be wise.
[23] The fear of the Lord leads to life: Then one rests content, untouched by trouble.
Prov. 19[2] It is not good to have zeal without knowledge, nor to be hasty and miss the way. [3] A man's own folly ruins his life, yet his heart rages against the Lord.
[9] A false witness will not go unpunished, and he who pours out lies will perish.
[15] Laziness brings on deep sleep, and the shiftless man goes hungry.
[26] He who robs his father and drives out his mother is a son who brings shame and disgrace.
 
11 人有见识,就不轻易发怒。宽恕人的过失,便是自己的荣耀。
17 怜悯贫穷的,就是借给耶和华。他的善行,耶和华必偿还。
20 你要听劝教,受训诲,使你终久有智慧。
23 敬畏耶和华的,得着生命。他必恒久知足,不遭祸患。
2 心无知识的,乃为不善。脚步急快的难免犯罪。3 人的愚昧,倾败他的道。他的心也抱怨耶和华
9 作假见证的,不免受罚。吐出谎言的,也必灭亡。
15 懒惰使人沉睡。懈怠的人,必受饥饿。

5. What four kinds of people are listed in Proverbs 30:11-14? What should our relationship be with such people?
Prov. 30[11] "There are those who curse their fathers and do not bless their mothers; [12] those who are pure in their own eyes and yet are not cleansed of their filth; [13] those whose eyes are ever so haughty, whose glances are so disdainful; [14] those whose teeth are swords and whose jaws are set with knives to devour the poor from the earth, the needy from among mankind.
 
11 有一宗人,咒诅父亲,不给母亲祝福。12 有一宗人,自以为清洁,却没有洗去自己的污秽。13 有一宗人,眼目何其高傲,眼皮也是高举。14 有一宗人,牙如剑,齿如刀
要吞灭地上的困苦人,和世间的穷乏人。
 
6. What are the different consequences for those who accept correction and for those who reject it? (Prov. 13:13-18)
Prov. 13[13] He who scorns instruction will pay for it, but he who respects a command is rewarded. [14] The teaching of the wise is a fountain of life, turning a man from the snares of death. [15] Good understanding wins favor, but the way of the unfaithful is hard.* [16] Every prudent man acts out of knowledge, but a fool exposes his folly. [17] A wicked messenger falls into trouble, but a trustworthy envoy brings healing. [18] He who ignores discipline comes to poverty and shame, but whoever heeds correction is honored.
 
13 藐视训言的,自取灭亡。敬畏诫命的,必得善报。14 智慧人的法则,(或作指教)是生命的泉源,可以使人离开死亡的网罗。15 美好的聪明,使人蒙恩。奸诈人的道路,崎岖难行。16 凡通达人都凭知识行事。愚昧人张扬自己的愚昧。
17 奸恶的使者,必陷在祸患里。忠信的使臣,乃医人的良药。
18 弃绝管教的,必致贫受辱。领受责备的,必得尊荣。
